Why is king David called a man after God’s own heart?
Acts 13:22 “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart..”
How can God say that David is a man after God’s own heart after everything he had done?
Some say yes, he did some bad things, but he always repented. He was a humble man.
Others say that he was a man after God’s own heart because he was a worshipper.
Others say no, he was a great king.
He is a man after God’s own heart because he had faith in God when he slew a giant.
All the above is true about king David, but it is not the reason why he is called a man after God’s own heart.
Consider the following :
David was consumed by God’s ultimate passion.
Exodus 25:8 And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.
God desires to have a house where He can dwell, live with His children.
2 Samuel 7 we read how David came to a place in his life where he said that he has a house, but where is God’s house , I will build Him a house. A man after God’s own heart.
Psalm 132:
Lord, remember David
And all his afflictions;
2 How he swore to the Lord,
And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 “Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house,
Or go up to the comfort of my bed;
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
5 Until I find a place for the Lord,
A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Acts 7:45-46
until the days of David, who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob.
Where is God’s house today? The Church is the House of God 1 Timothy 3:15.
The church is the habitation of God. The church is not a man made institution.
Some churches have been suffocating because of human traditions. God’s desire is to have a house on this earth through which He can express Himself.
If God visits a church, it betrays the fact that it is not His. A person who has his own home does not visit his house, he lives in it. If the Headship of Jesus is not fully yielded to in a given place, the best that the Lord can do is visit. He cannot dwell. Jesus is looking for a place where He can lay His head, a place where His Headship is operating.
Like any home owner, God builds His house in His own way. If the house is His then He will arrange the furniture the way He wants to. He is the master of His own house.
